Training to be a therapist

With in the therapy sector there are many routes to be taken in your training as the business is so varied now with the largest variety of therapies available than ever. The job spectrum ranges as far from acupuncturist and aroma therapist to hypno-therapist and psychotherapist. To train to be an alternative therapist you first need to ensure it is the correct career path for you as there are many things to take into consideration such as the close contact with the customers and also having good communication skills and a genuine will to help people are definitely essential qualities to have in this career.

You will firstly need a GCSE standard of education including 3 C grades or above, however, if you are a mature student they will allow you to study one year getting to the level of education required (or they may let you take it regardless to your education) then you can progress with the course afterwards. The courses you can take at this next stage are entirely up to you it just depends on the type of therapy you are most interested in. There are now courses in practically all forms of natural therapy if you are unable to find the course you would particularly like to take in your local college there are plenty of private practices around the country, however, these companies may charge slightly more for these courses. When choosing the course you want to participate in make sure it is a recognised qualification if you want to make a career or have a job at the end of your training. If it is not a recognised qualification then there is a chance you will not get employed by therapy centres etc. you would only be able to provide a service to family and friends.

Once you have the correct qualifications there are so many different possibilities such as:

Continuing training meaning you can get promoted through your different stages at your place of work (if they run a promotion scheme).

Going straight to work either in a health spa, beauty centre or alternative therapy centre.

Work self employed going to customers houses providing them with the therapy you are trained in.

Open your own therapy centre, this is a great opportunity for those looking to make a career out of their work as a therapist but takes a great deal of planning ahead for it to work.

Over the last 50 years or so there has become an ever increasing market with in alternative therapy meaning there hasn't been a better time than now to become an alternative therapist as there are so many requests for their services. No matter what the therapy you want to learn more about you will be able to find out more information from a holistic centre near you or even online can give you an idea of what is involved with the different therapies.
