Therapist - Job description

Being a therapist you first need to decide whether you're going to focus on one therapy in particular or if you're going to be a bit more varied. If you choose to be varied then you tend to be able to carry out several therapies at a rather basic level where as if you focus on one in particular you can be very skill at the type of therapy you choose but not be very educated in any other.

The basic duties and requirements of a Therapist are:

To assess the persons requirements before attempting (or suggesting) any specific therapies.

To be honest with the customer giving them an honest opinion on whether you think alternative therapy can be beneficial to them.

The therapist needs to be comfortable with close contact to customers.

They need to have a genuine interest in helping people.

Carrying out a high standard of the therapy they are trained in whilst ensuring the complete comfort of the customer.

If they are a therapist that has started their own business then they need to make sure all their staff are fully trained before they carry out any kind of therapy on their customers. This is especially important with the likes of aromatherapy because if you use the wrong mix of oils it can result in the customer having an allergic reaction.

To enrol on many therapist courses you will need the basic education of the standard 3 GCSE's grade C or above in Maths, English and Science. Once you have the basic education you then go on to an A-Level standard of training in your chosen sector of therapy. When you have completed this you can progress to further courses in your specific therapy, meaning you are at a more advanced level when starting a new job or if you are already working when you want to start this new training it means you are constantly advancing in your standard of work while still working. The advantage of having trained to be a therapist is that it's fairly simple to open your own business as long as you ensure that all staff and the premise meet the required standards. You can even work for your self travelling to people's homes to carry out their therapy until you can afford to purchase your own building to use as your centre. That's why many people consider training to be a therapist as a life career, because there are so many possibilities once you have trained.

Being a therapist is becoming more popular than ever as the market grows there is more call for them, and there are so many courses available now for example there are over 100 types of massage ranging from the standard aromatherapy to a form of massage that is based around cosmetology. It is important that the therapist is genuinely interested in their work as with many alternative therapies you need to have a spiritual connection with the form of therapy you provide.
