Homeopathy

Homeopathy is an alternative therapy used for creating cures for illnesses from similar substances which cause an illness. The style of prescription is often referred to as like for like. Homeopathy has been practised for some time with compelling results but is still not recognised as an established form of medicine.

History of Homeopathy

Greek words homoios and pathos mean similar and sufferingHomeopathy has been practiced since the early nineteenth century throughout Europe and America. Even though homeopathy has received constant criticism from leaders in the fields of traditional medicine it is still practised worldwide.

The term homeopathy is derived from the Greek words "homoios" and "pathos" which mean similar and suffering. The principals to its effectiveness are similar to those of immunisation. In both treatments a minute amount of a substance is introduced to the body in a controlled manner to combat the negative effects caused.

Homeopathic Remedies

Homeopathic remedies are very different to solutions provided by traditional medicine. To provide a solution to an illness or condition a specific mixture needs to be concocted for each person's symptoms. Based on the individual diagnosis a cure will be made from ingredients in an extremely weak concentration (usually in a ratio of 1:99 of the ingredient in water). The solution will then be dispensed usually in a pill form.

Even though doctors of homeopathic background have attained the same qualifications in the same institutions as traditional doctors they seem to be viewed in a more dubious light. As well as investigating usual aspects of what causes a problem for a particular patient they will also look into other factors such as the person's individual personality and background to try to get a broader view of the situation.

How it works

As homeopathic treatments are formulated using different methods to traditional medicine their effects also work in a different way.

In the early stages of homeopathic remedies the creators of these cures wanted to make the drugs as safe as possible. In order to weaken the potency of the ingredients they would be added to water to dilute the mixture repeatedly. Each time the solution became diluted it was also shaken in an effort to remove harmful properties.

Bizarrely enough, the more a substance became diluted and shaken the more effective it became. The diluted solutions improved in speed to take effect and also had reduced side effects. This aspect still baffles scientists today and has sparked several research initiatives to see if water does have the ability to memorise chemicals which have broken down in it.

An integral aspect of the homeopathic approach is the treatment of the body as a whole instead of isolating a single diseased organ or system. More specifically homeopathic cures target our immune system as well as the functions used to repair directly.

Numerous established businesses provide homeopathic solutions online. Some doctors may also specialise in homeopathic solutions and may be able to provide a course of homeopathic cures to work in harmony with traditional drugs.
